Overview
- Central Railway restored the mid line on July 7 and the south‑east down line on July 14, which allowed flagship services such as the Deccan Queen and several intercity and express trains to return to their regular ghat route.
- Repair teams are working 24/7 on the third damaged line through the steep Karjat–Lonavla ghat, so Central Railway is keeping cancellations, diversions and short‑terminations in place for many long‑distance trains at least until July 24.
- To manage capacity and safety during the phased recovery, many long‑distance trains have been rerouted via longer corridors such as Daund, Manmad, Bhusaval and Surat and some services will start or end at Pune or Khadki instead of Mumbai.
- A planned mega maintenance block on July 19 will suspend Trans‑Harbour services between Thane and Vashi/Nerul for about five hours and will cause diversions and short delays on numerous suburban and mail/express trains.
- From July 20 Central Railway will convert 10 existing 12‑car suburban services to 15‑car rakes, raising capacity on those runs by about 25 percent to ease crowding on busy outbound routes to Ambarnath, Badlapur and Karjat.
