Overview
- The National Weather Service in Melbourne confirmed new Feb. 1 record lows, including 24°F in Orlando and 23°F in both Sanford and Leesburg, falling short of Orlando’s all-time February low of 19°F.
- Wind chills plunged into single digits and low teens across the region, with Longwood recording a wind chill of 7°F, the coldest reported in Central Florida.
- An extreme cold warning was in effect through 10 a.m. Sunday and will be reissued from 7 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday, with temperatures expected to fall below freezing.
- Gusts topped 50 mph along parts of the coast such as Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, while Orlando International Airport reported 49 mph and Sanford-Orlando International Airport 48 mph.
- Residents reported brief snow flurries in several communities, including Oviedo, Mount Dora, New Smyrna Beach and Ormond Beach.
