Central Bank Says It Has No Record of Access by Moraes’s Wife Despite Banco Master Contract
The disclosure intensifies scrutiny of a three-year, R$129 million engagement found during a federal fraud investigation.
Overview
- In a response to a public records request, the Central Bank reported no access by Viviane Barci de Moraes or her firm from January 2024 through the present, despite the contract naming the institution as a venue for action.
- The antitrust agency Cade previously said neither Viviane nor her representatives held meetings there about the Master–BRB deal or related cases since at least January 2024.
- The contract outlined five coordinated work streams before the Judiciary, the Ministério Público, the Federal Police, executive bodies including the Central Bank, Receita Federal, PGFN and Cade, and the Legislative, with monthly fees of R$3.6 million through early 2027.
- Federal Police found the document on Banco Master owner Daniel Vorcaro’s phone during Operation Compliance Zero; he was arrested and later released as parts of the case were sealed by an STF order.
- Cade approved BRB’s purchase of Master in June, while the Central Bank later vetoed the deal after identifying alleged irregularities, and prosecutors allege about R$12.2 billion in sham credit sales as questions persist about what services were performed and what was paid.
