Center Line Man Charged in Girlfriend’s Killing Held Without Bond

Pretrial dates are set for April 1 followed by April 8, with prosecutors condemning the alleged domestic violence.

Overview

  • Macomb County charged Zachary Fuqua, 39, with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, and three counts of felony firearm.
  • Prosecutors say Fuqua shot 38-year-old Erica Marie Sanders in the kitchen of her Center Line home on March 17 around 5:30 p.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Three of Sanders’ four children, ages 5 to 17, were in the home at the time, according to prosecutors.
  • Fuqua was arraigned in 37th District Court and ordered held without bond, with a probable cause conference on April 1 and a preliminary examination on April 8.
  • In court, prosecutors said Sanders was shot in the back of the head and alleged Fuqua fled before being arrested near 10 Mile at Van Dyke, noting a prior concealed-weapon conviction.
