CENTCOM Confirms 3 U.S. Troops Killed, 5 Seriously Wounded in Iran Operation

The military says it will withhold the identities for 24 hours out of respect for families.

Overview

  • Central Command reported the first U.S. combat fatalities since joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran began under Operation Epic Fury on Saturday.
  • Several other personnel sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are being returned to duty, according to CENTCOM.
  • Iran has launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against Israel and U.S. facilities in Gulf states including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
  • CENTCOM rejected Iranian claims that ballistic missiles struck the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, saying the ship was not hit.
  • The campaign targets IRGC command nodes, air defenses and launch sites, with multiple reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed and Iranian authorities reporting hundreds of deaths inside the country.
