Census Estimates Show Mexico Tops Immigrant Origins in El Paso and Colorado Springs

Overview

• Stacker’s lists published July 29–30, 2026, use the U.S. Census Bureau 2024 five‑year estimates to rank countries of origin by number of foreign‑born residents in each metro area.
• El Paso’s metro has an overwhelmingly Mexican foreign‑born population with 178,576 residents from Mexico, equal to 88.34% of its foreign‑born residents.
• Mexico is also the largest origin in Colorado Springs but with a much smaller share: 12,483 residents, or 23.09% of that metro’s foreign‑born population.
• The second‑ and third‑largest origin countries differ by metro: Colorado Springs lists Germany (4,268; 7.9%) and Korea (2,992; 5.53%), while El Paso lists Germany (2,236; 1.11%) and the Philippines (1,527; 0.76%).
• These figures are point‑in‑time residency snapshots from pooled multi‑year Census estimates and do not measure recent arrivals, legal status, or reasons for migration, so they mainly show how history and geography shape metro populations.
