Cedar Point Shores Shut for Holiday Weekend After Storm Forecasts

Officials said National Weather Service forecasts of scattered showers and a few strong storms prompted a safety closure of the water park.

Overview

  • Cedar Point posted an Instagram notice saying Cedar Point Shores would be closed for May 23–24 because of the forecasted weather.
  • The park’s website shows the water park will not reopen before its planned Saturday schedule on May 30, since it is operating on a weekend-only timetable.
  • The main Cedar Point theme park remained open on Sunday with normal hours from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and warned that individual rides could be suspended during heavy rain or thunderstorms.
  • National Weather Service Cleveland forecasts called for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with a few strong to severe storms possible and projected drier conditions beginning Monday, May 25.
  • Guests were urged to check Cedar Point’s website and mobile app for live updates and refunds or rescheduling guidance, and the closure left some holiday visitors disappointed after traveling specifically for the water park.
