Overview
- Multiple French outlets reported Monday that Cédric Jubillar gave a handwritten letter to his lawyer, Me Pierre Debuisson, in which he acknowledged responsibility for the death of his wife Delphine and the lawyer has confirmed the existence of the letter.
- Jubillar told his lawyer he can indicate where he hid Delphine’s body, which has not been found since her disappearance during the night of December 15–16, 2020.
- Once the lawyer notifies the justice system, magistrates may open a supplementary inquiry and formally hear Jubillar, and investigators could mount searches to verify any location he gives, steps that may affect the appeal scheduled to begin on 21 September.
- Reactions split: relatives and Delphine’s supporters say locating the body would bring relief and a chance for burial, while some legal figures urge caution and question the timing and sincerity of the written confession.
- The case has long rested on a circumstantial ‘faisceau d’indices’; Jubillar has been detained since June 2021 and was convicted in October 2025 to 30 years in prison before filing an appeal and changing defence counsel earlier this year.
