CDA: WWI Memorial Honoring Sub Ghulam Ali Relocated for Preservation, Not Demolished

The authority says it dismantled the deteriorating monument to reconstruct it at a safer, more visible location.

Overview

  • The CDA said crews carefully dismantled the structure under conservation protocols, preserving original bricks and materials for accurate reconstruction.
  • The monument is set to be re-erected under CDA supervision near the Northern Bypass roundabout by Rehara village to improve safety and public access.
  • Although the memorial is not on the Department of Archaeology’s notified heritage inventory, the CDA said the department was consulted and due process followed.
  • The authority reported obtaining formal consent from legal heirs, including an affidavit and no-objection certificate from Sub Ghulam Ali’s great-grandson.
  • Responding to reports that the Kuri Road memorial was destroyed, the CDA rejected the claims as misinformation and urged outlets to verify facts.
