Overview
- CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as a free upgrade for existing owners on Sept. 29 and the launch pushed concurrent Steam players past 120,000.
- The update adds modern lighting systems such as path tracing, HDR and stronger bloom, which many players praise for fidelity but others say brightens and flattens the original dark fantasy look.
- Platform differences affect options and behavior: PC lets players toggle bloom and other settings while consoles currently lack that toggle, and a Switch 2 exploit lets users redeem the remaster by briefly inserting a Switch (original) physical cartridge.
- Reports of technical problems at launch included DLSS not working on the Xbox Play Anywhere PC build, NVIDIA HairWorks causing PC performance drops, save/load and voice-volume bugs, console performance variance and Switch 2 handheld blur.
- CD Projekt Red issued quick hotfixes on Oct. 1 (patches 5.00b for consoles/Xbox Play Anywhere and 5.00c for PC) that restored DLSS, reverted the HairWorks change, adjusted lighting and fixed save and voice-audio issues while promising further patches and ongoing investigation as part of its wider Witcher roadmap.
