CD Projekt Red Makes Witcher 3’s Top HD Mod Part of Official Remaster

The studio worked directly with the mod’s creator to fold his textures and models into the remaster, eliminating the need for a separate install and signalling closer collaboration with the modding community.

Overview

  • HalkHogan confirmed on August 26 that his Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project is being integrated into The Witcher 3 Remaster, which CD Projekt Red has scheduled to launch on September 29 for PC and consoles.
  • The integrated work covers a broad visual overhaul of the game, including almost every character, monsters, animals, vegetation, armor, equipment for Geralt and Roach, and large parts of environments.
  • The modder said the standalone HD Reworked Project will no longer be needed once the remaster ships because its assets will be included in the official build.
  • This formal cooperation builds on earlier use of community work in the next‑gen update and fits into CD Projekt Red’s wider plan to re-engage players ahead of the paid Songs of the Past expansion and Witcher 4.
  • For players, the change means cleaner installation and a unified visual baseline, and for the modding scene it raises questions to watch for about attribution, future mod compatibility, and how studios may formally adopt popular community work.
