Overview
- CD Projekt Red announced Wednesday that Songs of the Past is a full-sized third expansion for The Witcher 3 that returns players to Geralt and is due in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
- The studio said it is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, a Polish studio made up of industry veterans who are also working on the Witcher 1 remake and other franchise projects.
- CDPR said the public reveal was moved up after content was discovered on the company’s RED Launcher; the announcement had been planned for a REDstreams anniversary broadcast the following day.
- Alongside the announcement CD Projekt Red published updated PC requirements that require Windows 11, DirectX 12 and SSD-only storage and list new minimum specs such as Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8400, GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT, 12GB RAM and 70GB free SSD space.
- Songs of the Past is the first major Witcher 3 expansion since 2016’s Blood and Wine and, while some earlier leaks have suggested it may bridge toward The Witcher 4, CDPR has not confirmed any narrative link and the expansion will not support last-generation consoles.
