Overview
- A CCRTA bus left the roadway in front of 1374 Main Street after the driver experienced an ongoing unknown medical event and struck a fence and several trees.
- Nine people were on board, including the driver, and emergency crews evacuated passengers through an emergency window because of the bus’s position.
- Five passengers were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries described by police as not life-threatening and the driver was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
- Multiple local fire and ambulance units from Centerville-Osterville-Marston’s Mills, Hyannis, Barnstable and Cotuit responded and a portion of Main Street was temporarily closed during the response.
- Barnstable police are actively investigating the crash to determine cause and any implications for CCRTA operations, safety checks, and driver medical screening.
