Overview
- CBSE, which issued an advisory Thursday, said the QR codes on board exam papers are internal authentication markers and not web links.
- When scanned, the codes display text strings, and users who then searched those strings saw unrelated results suggested by Google rather than content set by CBSE.
- Students from the March 30 Class 12 History exam shared clips showing scans surfacing influencer Orhan Awatramani (Orry), which India Today said it verified on two paper sets.
- The board pointed to visible strings on some sets such as "61501", "HHIISSTT" and "OOORRRYYY", and noted that autocorrect can turn the last item into "Orry" in search results.
- CBSE urged students, parents and media to stop sharing unverified claims and said exam security was not compromised, noting QR codes were added after past paper leaks to help track authenticity and trace distribution.
