CBP Seizes Nearly 140 Kilograms of Drugs Hidden in Pickup at El Paso Port of Entry

Officials say the interdiction blocked a major narcotics shipment from reaching the United States.

Overview

  • CBP reports the stop occurred on Feb. 28 at the Paso del Norte Port of Entry when a 2018 Dodge Ram with Mexican plates was flagged for inspection.
  • Officers used a nonintrusive inspection scan to spot anomalies, and a K-9 then alerted to concealed packages inside the vehicle.
  • Agents recovered 122 bundles comprising 122.8 kilograms of cocaine, about 14.86 kilograms of fentanyl, and nearly 2 kilograms of methamphetamine, totaling close to 140 kilograms.
  • The driver, identified by CBP as a Mexican national, was arrested and is facing federal drug trafficking charges.
  • Port Director Ray Provencio described the case as a significant seizure that prevented a major narcotics load from entering the country.
