CBI Steps Up Karur Stampede Probe With TVK HQ Inspection as On-Duty Police Face Questioning

A Supreme Court–mandated investigation is using 3D mapping and CCTV analysis to reconstruct the rally and determine whether crowd-control failures and planning lapses led to the 41 deaths.

Overview

  • CBI officials visited TVK’s Panaiyur headquarters on Monday, sought participant details and CCTV, and reviewed footage from a campaign caravan, party leader Nirmal Kumar said.
  • Investigators have summoned 306 people for questioning, including bereaved families and TVK mobilisation cadre, according to IANS reporting.
  • Teams camping in Karur have conducted intensive site work with 3D laser scanners over several hundred meters to document and measure the rally area.
  • Police personnel deployed at the September 27 event appeared before the agency on Tuesday to provide accounts of permissions and safety arrangements, PTI reported.
  • Local traders and shopkeepers have been questioned at the Circuit House as the probe examines event planning, crowd control and the role of officials who authorised the gathering.
