CBI-SIT Chargesheet on Tirupati Laddu Ghee Finds No Animal Fat, Details Large-Scale Synthetic Adulteration

The SC-appointed CBI team reported synthetic adulteration with no animal fat detected, prompting rival claims of vindication.

Overview

  • The final chargesheet filed on January 23 in the Nellore ACB court names 36 accused, including TTD officials and supplier directors.
  • It alleges about 68.17 lakh kg of adulterated material worth roughly ₹234 crore was supplied between 2019 and 2024.
  • Investigators say palm-based oils and additives such as acetic acid esters, monoglycerides, beta carotene and flavouring were used to mimic ghee and pass lab checks.
  • ICAR-NDRI reported no lard in four sealed tanker samples and NDDB CALF analyses indicated fats of plant origin with negligible genuine ghee content.
  • YSRCP claims the findings disprove animal-fat allegations and seeks apologies from N. Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, while TTD’s chairman rejects any ‘clean chit’, cites procurement irregularities and urges further probing.
