CBI Seizes Cash, Gold in WCL DA Probe and Arrests Army Officer in Defence Bribery Case

Parallel investigations target alleged quid pro quo with private intermediaries linked to a Dubai-based firm.

Overview

  • The agency registered the disproportionate-assets case on December 18 against a Western Coalfields area sales manager and his wife, alleging Rs 45.23 lakh beyond known income.
  • Searches recovered Rs 17 lakh in cash, 900 grams of gold, a built-up house in Mohali, three agricultural plots in Dhanbad, and a luxury vehicle.
  • In a separate FIR on December 19, the CBI arrested Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma and private individual Vinod Kumar over alleged corruption tied to defence production and exports.
  • The FIR also names Colonel Kajal Bali, the commanding officer of the 16 Infantry Division Ordnance Unit in Sri Ganganagar, as well as a Dubai-based company.
  • Investigators say Vinod Kumar delivered a Rs 3 lakh bribe to Lieutenant Colonel Sharma on December 18, and identify Bengaluru-based managers Rajiv Yadav and Ravjit Singh as contacts for the firm.
