CBI Registers FIR Against Delhi Man for Allegedly Posing as PMO Official

Investigators are examining forged letters plus a recurring phone number after a PMO complaint triggered the case.

  • The FIR was filed on October 2 following an August 21 complaint by Anil Sharma, an assistant director in the Prime Minister's Office.
  • P Rama Rao of Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, is named in the case and booked under cheating, personation and forgery provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
  • According to the FIR, a May 1 letter on a purported PMO letterhead sought Suprabhatam darshan on May 10 at Tirumala along with three AC double rooms.
  • The accused also allegedly called the pro vice-chancellor of Symbiosis International University while posing as a PMO joint secretary to press for an MBA admission.
  • A letter to the Mysuru tahsildar impersonating joint secretary C Sridhar cited the same mobile number used in the Symbiosis call, and the CBI’s Special Crime unit is probing with no arrests reported so far.
