CBI Registers FIR Against Aligarh Trust Over Use of PM Modi’s Name

The case follows a PMO complaint and court approval to investigate alleged violations of the Emblems and Names Act.

Overview

  • An FIR was filed on October 24 against Jasim Mohammad under Sections 3 and 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act.
  • The trust, registered as the Centre for Narendra Modi Studies on January 25, 2021, was set up without prior permission from the central government or the PMO, according to the FIR.
  • The Rouse Avenue Court granted the CBI permission on October 14 to investigate the non-cognisable offence under Section 174 of the BNSS.
  • CBI investigators will examine the trust’s activities, sources of funding, and whether it suggested any official association with the Prime Minister or the government.
  • The Centre for NaMo Studies said it was lawfully registered and renamed after completing formalities, as media reports noted its website’s publications, events, and a Kangana Ranaut endorsement video.
