Overview
- The CBI carried out searches at 26 locations across 11 states and union territories, which on Monday yielded incriminating documents and digital material now under forensic examination.
- The agency arrested one Assistant Engineer (Civil) of BRO’s 81 RCC posted in Khatse Batalic sector and two Kargil-based labour‑supply agents who are accused of routing wages for non‑existent casual workers into bank accounts.
- Four FIRs were filed after a BRO Technical Board of Officers' internal inquiry reported prima facie financial irregularities, and the complaints were lodged by the Ministry of Defence.
- The cases name 10 BRO officers at ranks including Lieutenant Colonel, Major and engineers and allege offences such as cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
- If proven, the probe could lead to criminal prosecution, departmental action against serving officers and a tightening of controls over BRO contracting and casual‑labour payments that are central to border infrastructure work.
