Overview
- The CBI arrested senior IAS officer Pankaj Aggarwal on Monday for his alleged role in opening and using accounts of the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad and the Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board at IDFC First Bank’s Sector‑32 branch.
- The agency says fraudulent transactions in those two department accounts caused a net loss of ₹60.54 crore and that this misconduct is part of a wider scheme the CBI ties to about ₹504 crore from eight Haryana departments.
- So far the CBI has filed chargesheets against 17 people, including six bank officials, three Haryana government employees, two companies and six private individuals, and it has made prior arrests such as former Panchkula commissioner R.K. Singh.
- Investigators have seized documents and devices but report deleted chats and call logs on key phones, and they are seeking forensic recovery of erased data while tracing how money moved through shell entities and where assets were parked.
- The probe was taken over from Haryana’s vigilance bureau at the state government’s request and is expanding to related Chandigarh cases, which could lead to more charges, asset seizures and scrutiny of banking controls for government accounts.
