CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender Nazir Hossen in 2021 Bengal Post-Poll Murder Case

The arrest in North 24 Parganas follows a Calcutta High Court–mandated probe into post-poll violence.

Overview

  • Hossen was apprehended from his father-in-law’s residence in North 24 Parganas based on human intelligence and technical inputs, the CBI said.
  • He had been absconding since 2021 and was declared a proclaimed offender in the case.
  • Investigators produced him before the Barasat court on Thursday, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
  • The CBI alleges he and others killed Hasnur Zaman on May 2, 2021 by hurling bombs, tied to political rivalry and a dispute over a proposed clubhouse on mosque land.
  • He was earlier charge-sheeted with 12 others under the IPC, the Explosive Substances Act and the Indian Explosives Act, with the matter under trial at the Barasat court.
