CBI Arrests Delhi Police Inspector in Rs 3 Crore Bribe Probe

Overview

  • The CBI registered an FIR on June 8 that names Delhi Police inspector Pradeep Singh, businessman N Raja, intermediary Rajkumar and unknown public servants and private persons in an alleged bribery plot.
  • Investigators laid a trap in Chandni Chowk on Monday and arrested Singh and Rajkumar after recovering about Rs 24.70 lakh while they handled the cash.
  • CBI documents say Raja met Singh on May 14 at Aerocity and was introduced to a senior public servant who allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore for favourable relief with a Rs 1.5 crore advance.
  • The FIR alleges Raja arranged an advance via a Chennai hawala operator and transferred about Rs 1 crore to Delhi as part of the payment that Singh was to collect.
  • Raja is the prime accused in a reported Rs 5,000‑crore counterfeit medicines racket uncovered in Puducherry last year and the CBI is probing whether the arrests reveal wider use of intermediaries and informal money channels that could undermine the larger probe.
