CBI Arrests CPRI Joint Director, Private Firm Executive in Rs 9.5 Lakh Bribery Trap

The probe focuses on alleged payoffs for favorable equipment test reports at the power ministry's certification body.

The agency caught Rajaram Mohanrao Chennu and Sudhir Group director Atul Khanna during a Rs 9.5 lakh handover in Bengaluru on January 9.
An FIR was registered on January 8 naming Chennu and Khanna, with allegations tied to bribes for favorable CPRI test results.
Searches at Chennu’s residence recovered about Rs 3.59 crore in cash plus foreign currency worth roughly Rs 4.05 lakh, taking total seizures to around Rs 3.76 crore.
The FIR details a Rs 10 lakh demand, a plan to send Rs 14 lakh for distribution, and the use of a hawala channel involving company officials Mallikarjuna Reddy Yartha and Rahul Seth.
CBI officials say searches are continuing, with further recoveries or identification of other implicated parties possible.
