Cattelan Revives Meteorite-Struck Pope as 666-Edition Miniature With Confessional Hotline

The project fuses commerce with performance to probe whether Catholic icons still carry power.

Overview

  • Cattelan’s relaunch, announced Wednesday, offers 666 hand-painted resin miniatures of La Nona Ora through Avant Arte at €2,200 each.
  • The hotline runs April 2–22 with a free phone number in the U.S. and WhatsApp elsewhere, inviting confessions by voicemail, text, or chat for the artist to review.
  • Allocation is by random draw that closes April 23, and people who submit a confession get early access to enter before the wider release.
  • A live-stream on April 23 will feature selected callers speaking with Cattelan, and at least one participant will receive a miniature for free.
  • Each piece is hand-numbered and ships with a certificate and metal ferula, reviving a 1999 image of Pope John Paul II felled by a meteorite that once drew fierce backlash, which Cattelan says shows the image is still alive.
