CATL Unveils TECTRANS II Megawatt Battery Platform for Heavy Trucks

CATL says the modular system will shorten OEM development, cut fleet operating costs, reduce downtime through long range, megawatt charging, longer battery life.

  • CATL publicly launched TECTRANS II at IAA Transportation in Hannover as a modular commercial-vehicle battery platform that can be configured for e-axle and central-drive trucks.
  • In its heavy-duty configuration CATL claims up to 1,000 km of range, megawatt-class charging that reaches 80% state of charge in 25 minutes, a gravimetric energy density of about 170 Wh/kg, and roughly 96% round-trip efficiency.
  • The company rates the heavy-duty pack for a 12-year, 1.5 million kilometre service life with 70% capacity retention and describes physical protections and BMS redundancy intended to boost durability and uptime.
  • CATL signed a memorandum of understanding with DHL to pilot Green Freight Corridors in Europe and said the platform supports both charging and battery swapping to shorten OEM development cycles and cut R&D costs.
