Overview
- The demissionary government authorized F-35 operations at Lelystad Airport and left a ruling on holiday flights to the next cabinet after a Tweede Kamer majority urged deferral.
- Defence papers estimate about 5,500 homes, businesses, schools, care sites and recreation spots will experience audible noise, with peak levels around 105 dB roughly one kilometer from the runway.
- Eight houses near the airfield will be demolished under the plan, and flight routes are still being drawn up with Schiphol traffic constraints in mind.
- The basing plan requires extending the runway by 300 meters to 3,000 meters and acquiring over 100 hectares for shelters and facilities, displacing the Police Academy site and activities such as the Midland Circuit, karting and driving centers, and part of the RDW test track.
- The cabinet also confirmed a barracks in Zeewolde, and both municipalities expect compensation and regional upgrades including better connections and fixes for bottlenecks such as the Nijkerkerbrug.
