Carbon Monoxide Ruled Cause in Accidental Deaths of Goleta Couple in Cambria

Investigators found a disconnected carbon monoxide alarm in the Cambria room where they were discovered.

Overview

San Luis Obispo County officials said John Anthony Ruskey died from toxic effects of carbon monoxide, while Kristen Kelly Ruskey died from toxic effects of carbon monoxide and ethanol.
Both deaths were ruled accidental by the coroner following autopsy and toxicology analyses.
Detectives reported no indication the incident was criminal in nature.
Deputies responded on Feb. 8 to a residence on the 8100 block of Lone Palm Drive in Cambria, where the couple were found.
The couple leave three children, and a community GoFundMe for the family has raised more than $176,000.
