Overview
- A fire started in two caravans close to the Tesco on Wirral Park Road on Saturday evening and store staff evacuated customers as a precaution.
- Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue mobilised multiple appliances and an aerial ladder platform and brought the blaze under control by about 1.40am.
- Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, main jets, thermal imaging and ventilation to extinguish the fire and check for hotspots.
- Two caravans were completely destroyed and the store suffered around 10% external damage while there were no reported injuries.
- The scene was handed to store staff and police and Tesco closed the branch for the night with plans to reopen the following morning after damage assessment and smoke clearance.
