Cape Air Plane Overshoots Runway at Provincetown Airport

Federal and state investigators were notified to examine the landing after the airport closed temporarily for on-site work.

Overview

  • The aircraft departed the paved surface after landing on Runway 7 and came to rest beyond the runway where Taxiway B meets the pavement.
  • The flight carried two crew members and one passenger at the time of the landing.
  • Smoke was seen coming from the plane and one person was taken to a local hospital for evaluation with no serious injuries reported.
  • Provincetown police, fire crews, airport staff and National Park Service rangers secured the scene and the airport was closed so responders and investigators could work.
  • The NTSB, FAA and Massachusetts State Police were notified to assist with a formal investigation and Cape Air said it is cooperating while the cause is reviewed.
