Capcom Releases Prologue Demo for Monster Hunter Wilds

The free offline trial lets players carry progress into the full game as Capcom retools pricing and editions to rebuild the player base ahead of the 2027 Ascendance expansion.

Overview

  • The Prologue Demo, which Capcom released Wednesday, Aug. 5, is available on PS5, Xbox Series and Steam PC and covers the game from the prologue through Chapter 1‑3 with full character creation and all 14 weapon types.
  • Demo progress and awards can be transferred to the full game on the same platform so players do not need to finish the trial to keep their save.
  • The demo disables online features and photo mode so it cannot show the series' co‑op loop, a limit outlets say reduces its value as a multiplayer test.
  • Capcom also reorganized product options on Aug. 5 by lowering the base price, introducing a $79.99 Gold Edition and cheaper cosmetic bundles, and retiring prior Deluxe/Premium bundles.
  • The moves follow Wilds' troubled Feb. 2025 launch, which drew heavy criticism for poor PC optimization, and are widely reported as efforts to steady the game ahead of the major paid expansion Ascendance in 2027.
