Capcom Releases Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo and Lowers Base Price

The free offline demo and new bundle prices are meant to rebuild the player base ahead of the Ascendance expansion in 2027.

Overview

  • Capcom announced on Wednesday that a free Prologue Demo for Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam.
  • The demo lets players play from character creation through the start of Chapter 1‑3 with access to all 14 weapon types and allows save files to carry over to the full game on the same platform.
  • Online features and photo mode are disabled in the demo, and outlets reported differing download sizes of roughly 19 GB versus about 26 GB.
  • Capcom also replaced earlier editions with new permanent product options and lower pricing, cutting the base game to $39.99 and offering a Gold Edition for $79.99 plus separate cosmetic bundles.
  • The moves follow Wilds’ troubled February 28, 2025 launch that drew criticism for PC performance and heavy DLC, and they position the game for a major paid expansion, Ascendance, in 2027 and a Switch 2 port in development.
