Cantoya Fest 2026 Lights Up Pátzcuaro With Free Moenia Concert

Traffic changes plus reservation-only workshops are being used to manage crowds during the three-day festival.

Overview

  • The tenth Cantoya Fest runs from July 31 to August 2 in Pátzcuaro, and a free Moenia concert is scheduled for Saturday night at 21:00 in Plaza Vasco de Quiroga.
  • Organizers are holding mass daytime and nocturnal balloon elevaciones that include giant lanterns and paper balloon displays created by artisans from Brazil, France, Italy, Colombia and El Salvador.
  • Family workshops on making Cantoya balloons are running at local venues such as Posada Camelinas, Grand Mayes and Don More, with a strict 20-person limit per session and a recommendation to reserve in advance.
  • Municipal authorities have closed Calle Serrato for the festival, opened Calle Lloreda to two-way traffic and reconfigured parking for motorcycles, and officials say all night flights will proceed only if weather and safety conditions allow.
  • Officials present the event as a tourism and cultural boost for Pátzcuaro as a Pueblo Mágico, with organizers and the state tourism secretary saying the festival aims to attract families and visitors and support the local economy.
