Canton Man Arrested After Woman’s Ankle Was Grabbed Through Bedroom Window

A judge ordered a mental-competency exam, with prosecutors saying the arrest also breaches his existing probation.

Overview

  • Police say the episode occurred about 2:10 a.m. Wednesday when someone opened a bedroom window on Pond View Road, called the sleeping woman by name, and grabbed her ankle.
  • Officers identified and arrested 21-year-old Helohim Nedvaldo Francilme at his home after investigators learned he had tried to contact the victim on Instagram and Snapchat about an hour before the alleged intrusion.
  • Francilme was arraigned on charges of nighttime breaking-and-entering with intent to commit a felony and assault and battery and pleaded not guilty in court records.
  • A judge ordered a competency evaluation and set detention and bail conditions; court and police records say the arrest also violates Francilme’s probation from earlier charges.
  • Police praised their rapid, coordinated response that led to the arrest and say the victim and her family were given support while the case proceeds to a mid-August court date.
