Cancelled Age of Empires III DLC Returns With September 10 Release

World's Edge has opened a Steam open beta to restore Baltic factions and is retiring the Steam free trial on August 13, changing how new players access the game.

Overview

  • World's Edge re-announced The Baltic Powers on Friday and set the expansion's launch date for September 10, 2026.
  • The DLC adds two playable Baltic civilizations plus more than 25 maps, new game modes, Challenge Scenarios, and over 50 hero customizations.
  • An open beta for The Baltic Powers is currently available on Steam so players can test the Danes and Poles before launch.
  • The studio will retire Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition's free trial on Steam on August 13, 2026, which will require new players to buy the full game to keep playing after that date while Xbox Game Pass subscribers retain access.
  • The project was first announced in February 2024, delayed in October 2024 and cancelled in January 2025 after the studio said the announcement was premature, and the reinstatement has surprised the community and could alter competitive matchups and player interest ahead of release.
