Canadiens Re-Claim Sammy Blais Off Waivers From Maple Leafs

As the lone claimant, Montreal can send the winger directly to Laval or keep him briefly on the NHL roster without re-waiving him.

Overview

  • Toronto waived Blais on Nov. 26 after activating Auston Matthews and Nicolas Roy from injured reserve and reassigned Jacob Quillan to the Marlies.
  • Montreal was reported as the only team to submit a claim, granting the Canadiens the option to assign Blais directly to the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
  • Blais logged eight games for the Maple Leafs with one goal and two assists, averaging about eight minutes per night and recording 28 hits in a bottom-six role.
  • He is on a one-year, $775,000 deal signed with Montreal on July 1 and was initially claimed by Toronto from the Canadiens on Oct. 6.
  • Under waiver rules, Montreal can keep Blais in the NHL for up to 10 games or 30 days before he would require waivers to be sent down again.
