FILE: A five-month nationwide operation has resulted in the seizure of 386 kilograms of fentanyl, large amounts of cocaine and meth, and $13.46 million in cash, according to law enforcement.

Overview

  • Running from May to October, the CIROC-led operation mobilized more than 100 police agencies to target production, trafficking networks and financial enablers.
  • The sweep seized 386 kilograms of fentanyl along with 270 kilograms of precursor chemicals, 5,989 kilograms of cocaine, 1,708 kilograms of methamphetamine and $13.46 million in cash.
  • Authorities reported 8,136 arrests and charges, including 217 people accused of trafficking fentanyl while on bail.
  • RCMP officials said the haul accounts for 78 percent of reported fentanyl seized in Canada this year.
  • CBSA said only about 400 grams of fentanyl destined to move across the border were intercepted, reinforcing its view that Canada is not a major exporter as Ottawa faces U.S. pressure that prompted a $1.3‑billion border plan.
