Overview
- Canada’s hockey federation, which confirmed the moves Tuesday, added Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer to its IIHF World Championship squad for the May 15–31 tournament in Switzerland.
- Martone, 19, rose from Michigan State to the NHL this season with 50 points in 35 NCAA games, 10 points in nine Flyers regular-season games, and five points in 10 playoff games.
- At his Flyers exit interview, Martone said he is focused on trying to win gold and called the chance to represent Canada an honor.
- The roster is captained by 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini, with John Tavares and Ryan O’Reilly as alternates, and Canada opens pool play Friday against Sweden.
- Canada last won the men’s Worlds in 2023 and missed the podium the past two years, while Martone is the Flyers’ lone representative for Canada and prospect Jack Berglund skates for Sweden.
