Cam’ron Says Jay-Z Aimed a Subliminal at Him on ‘Otis

He points to an “asylum” lyric with release timing after his 2010 Kanye jab as the tell.

Overview

  • Cam’ron said on the Talk With Flee podcast that Jay-Z slipped a shot at him into the 2011 Watch the Throne single “Otis” in response to Cam’s earlier dig at Kanye West.
  • He recited Jay-Z’s lines — “Live from the Mercer… Flee in the G450… Political refugee, asylum can be purchased” — as the bars he believes were directed at him.
  • He argued the word “asylum” nods to his Asylum Records distribution at the time and noted the song arrived shortly after his Kanye comments, which he says supports his read.
  • Coverage by HipHopDX, HotNewHipHop, and Complex framed the lines as a long-overlooked subliminal, and Cam’ron acknowledged he cannot prove it and laughed it off.
  • HipHopDX added that “political refugee” could hint at Dipset’s split from Roc-A-Fella, while no reply from Jay-Z or Kanye has been reported as fans reassess old lyrics.
