Camarillo Homicide Suspect Dies by Self-Inflicted Gunshot After High-Speed Pursuit Ends Near LAX

Ventura County detectives continue the investigation with the victim and suspect still unnamed.

  • Police were called around 11:45 a.m. to the 400 block of Walker Avenue in Camarillo, where a man with multiple gunshot wounds was pronounced dead.
  • Deputies soon located a suspect vehicle and a southbound pursuit on the 101 Freeway topped 100 mph before officers lost sight of it.
  • California Highway Patrol was alerted to assist, and Los Angeles police later found the vehicle on the southbound 405 near the Imperial Highway offramp.
  • The driver yielded and, sometime after stopping, died inside the car from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
  • The Imperial Highway offramp was closed under a CHP SigAlert for nearly two hours as investigators processed the scene, and authorities asked tipsters to call 805-654-9511.
