CalMatters Launches Statewide VotingMatters Tour With 35+ Free Community Events

The fall program seeks to boost voter knowledge by training local hosts, supplying turnkey event kits, and offering staff and cost-sharing to community partners.

Overview

  • CalMatters is running VotingMatters in person across California through Election Day to bring its 2026 Voter Guide directly to local audiences.
  • The published fall schedule lists more than 35 free events statewide with stops that include Rancho Cucamonga, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.
  • Organizers describe the series as nonpartisan and issue-focused and say they will work with local newsrooms, colleges, libraries, churches and nonprofit groups to host discussions.
  • CalMatters invites community co-hosts, provides staff across the state to present, offers to help cover event costs, and asks interested groups to email votingmatters@calmatters.org.
  • The fall push builds on earlier turnout — VotingMatters drew more than 600 attendees during the May primary, including roughly 100 people at a Modesto event — and includes an event kit with a slide deck, voter guide zine and marketing materials so communities can run their own gatherings.
