Caledonian Sleeper Adds Birmingham International Stop on Highlander Route Starting Tonight

The move targets a long‑underserved West Midlands–Highlands connection to shift more leisure travel to lower‑carbon rail.

Overview

  • Overnight trains begin calling at Birmingham International from 15 January, running six nights a week on the Highlander service.
  • Birmingham is the first stop after London Euston before the train heads via Crewe and Preston, then splits at Edinburgh for Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
  • Northbound boarding times are 10:42pm on weekdays and 10:35pm on Sundays, with arrivals around 7:50am in Aberdeen, 8:45am in Inverness and 10:00am in Fort William; southbound services reach Birmingham about 6:20am.
  • Operational rules mean passengers cannot leave northbound trains or board southbound trains at Birmingham International.
  • The service offers seats and private rooms with a Club Car plus family, pet (£30 fee), bike-booking and accessibility provisions, while fares range from roughly £54–£100 for seats to about £210–£405 for beds.
