Overview
- The commission voted 5–2 to advance a land-use map amendment and rezone 244 acres near Douglas Avenue and County Line Road from agriculture to light manufacturing and office.
- Microsoft has confirmed it would operate the campus but says planning is in early stages and the Caledonia site could differ from its Mount Pleasant projects.
- More than two hours of public comment saw over 40 residents oppose the plan, citing water and energy demand, traffic, noise, light pollution, and loss of farmland and groundwater protections.
- Economic-development officials estimate 50–200 permanent jobs and 300–400 construction positions, with property taxes flowing directly to the village, county, and schools because the site is outside a TIF district.
- If ultimately approved, the facility would be Microsoft’s third data center project in Racine County, located near the We Energies Oak Creek power plant, with additional permits and reviews required before construction.
