Cadillac Fleeing Officer Crashes at Joliet Intersection; Four Hospitalized
Investigators are seeking public video to reconstruct a high-speed crash that followed an officer’s decision to halt a pursuit for safety.
Overview
- Early Sunday morning an officer saw a Cadillac CTS driving without headlights and attempted a traffic stop that the driver ignored before speeding away.
- The officer ended the pursuit for safety near Black Road and Midland Avenue, and witnesses and police say the Cadillac then ran a red light at Black Road and Larkin Avenue.
- The Cadillac struck a northbound Chevrolet Cruze, hit a utility pole and overturned in a grassy area, leaving four people injured and the Cadillac’s driver with life-threatening wounds.
- Fire crews extricated the Cadillac driver, who was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center and later flown to Loyola University Medical Center, while the Chevrolet driver and two passengers were treated at St. Joseph for non-life-threatening injuries.
- Joliet police closed the roadway for several hours for scene reconstruction and asked anyone with footage or information to call the Traffic Unit at 815-724-3010 as the crash remains under investigation.
