CABA Reinstates Student Pass as Provinces Launch 2026 Rollouts and Rule Changes

New measures are designed to prevent gaps in student travel at the start of classes.

Overview

  • Buenos Aires City’s 2026 Boleto Estudiantil, established by Law 5,656, is active via a nominal SUBE card for free rides on buses, Subte and Premetro, excluding AMBA commuter trains that require a separate rail procedure.
  • Eligibility in CABA covers initial, primary and secondary public students, private students with full state subsidy, special education, vocational graduates and low‑income higher‑education students attending institutions based in the city.
  • Use in CABA is limited to up to four free trips per school day between 05:00 and 23:59 during the academic year, with annual activation required and renewals completed by tapping a SUBE terminal.
  • Tucumán opened registration for the Interior Student Pass’s ninth year, waived the four‑subjects‑passed requirement for vocational and incoming university students, enabled free travel in March during processing, integrated Tarjeta Independencia on rural lines and kept paper passes as fallback.
  • Catamarca will allow validation of the 2026 free student fare from Monday on SUBE terminals or via NFC, requires first‑time or 18‑plus applicants to register online and sets a 45‑day window to submit documentation after activation.
