BYD Will Pay All Crash Costs When Drivers Use God’s Eye Urban Assist

BYD tied a one-year China-only guarantee to the God’s Eye 5.0 upgrade to accelerate adoption through larger fleet data collection.

Overview

  • BYD announced on May 28 that it will assume uncapped financial liability for economically liable, at-fault crashes that occur while its God’s Eye Urban Navigation on Autopilot is used in compliance with rules.
  • The ‘Full Damage Coverage’ runs for one year, applies to new buyers and existing owners who install God’s Eye 5.0 over the air, and BYD says claim payouts will not raise owners’ commercial insurance premiums the next year.
  • BYD cites fleet scale as its reasoning, saying more than 3.15 million vehicles logged God’s Eye data and the company collects hundreds of millions of miles/kilometers of driving data daily to train its systems.
  • The offer is paired with lower-cost hardware options, including a LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B for about 12,000 yuan, a price point far below reported Chinese pricing for Tesla’s assisted-driving package.
  • The system remains classified as Level 2, the guarantee is China-only and limited to compliant use for one year, and independent safety validation and formal regulatory recognition have not been resolved.
