BYD Unveils Da Tang SUV After Record 150,000 Pre-Orders

Its 1,000V Blade Battery platform, built-in LiDAR and megawatt Flash Charging aim to boost BYD's overseas growth.

Overview

  • BYD launched the Da Tang on Wednesday and confirmed a company-record order book of more than 150,000 pre-orders plus retail prices from 239,900 to 309,900 yuan.
  • The Da Tang is a seven-seat, full-size SUV built on BYD's 1,000V high-voltage architecture with the second-generation Blade Battery and maximum CLTC range of up to 950 km on the long-range rear-wheel-drive variant.
  • All trims come standard with roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD's God's Eye 5.0 driver-assistance suite, and the top AWD model is rated at 585 kW with a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds.
  • BYD says the Da Tang supports megawatt-class Flash Charging that can add about 300 km in five minutes and charge from 10% to 97% in roughly nine minutes, and the company plans to expand its Flash Charging network aggressively with thousands of stations at home and abroad by year-end 2026.
  • The launch was pushed back from late May because demand for Blade Battery 2.0 outstripped production capacity, a constraint that complicates BYD's bid to counter a China sales slowdown and to convert strong export demand into deliveries and margin recovery.
