BYD Sealion 5 Priced From $33,990 as Australia’s Cheapest Plug‑In Hybrid

Orders are open, with BYD pitching value through long electric range despite slow charging.

Overview

Two variants are confirmed: Essential at $33,990 and Premium at $37,990 before on-road costs.
Both grades use a 1.5‑litre petrol engine with a 145kW motor for 156kW combined output.
The Essential carries a 12.9kWh battery rated at about 71km NEDC electric range, while the Premium’s 18.3kWh pack is rated at about 100km.
Official consumption is 1.2–1.3L/100km with charge above 25% and 4.5–4.6L/100km when it drops below 25%.
Charging is limited to 3.3kW AC with no DC fast charging, and first showroom arrivals are slated for early next year.
