BYD Passes 100,000 UK Registrations

Rapid sales growth in 2026 has prompted BYD to announce new models and plans for a nationwide fast-charging rollout.

Overview

  • In late July BYD said it had exceeded 100,000 new-car registrations in the United Kingdom since launching the Atto 3 in March 2023.
  • More than a third of those registrations — 37,995 vehicles — were recorded in the first half of 2026, reflecting a sharp acceleration in recent months.
  • BYD has grown its UK range from one model to ten and expanded its retail footprint from five launch sites to 143 locations nationwide.
  • The company plans to introduce additional models in the UK, including the Dolphin G, Shark pickup, Ti 7 and Denza Z9GT, and has announced a target to deploy around 300 Flash Chargers as a rapid top-up option; these infrastructure and charging-speed claims come from BYD and are not independently verified.
  • BYD points to its global scale — including a top-100 placement on the 2026 Fortune Global 500 and strong annual results — and is testing non-retail uses such as a customized all-electric SEALION 7 ambulance with St John Ambulance, a development that could broaden electric vehicle roles beyond private ownership.
